This week Mandy has challenged everyone to make a recipe from their favorite chef.
My favorite chef is Alison Roman. Most of her recipes are savory, with some heat and lots of herbs. One thing that I learned from cooking through her books is that you don’t need a lot of ingredients to make a flavorful meal. I appreciate that she keeps things simple and uses everyday ingredients that you can find at any grocery store.
The recipe I chose this week is Littleneck Clams with Green Garlic Butter and Leftover Wine. This recipe is in her book Dining In. Clams are something normally would not cook or even order on a menu. I didn’t even know they sold clams at my grocery store but they do. I took that as a sign and cooked this recipe. It turned out amazing! I ate them with rustic Italian bread and some wine. I felt like I was eating at a fancy restaurant. It was a “look at me go” experience. Like, I just cooked with clams and they turned out fantastic. This is why Alison Roman is my favorite chef.
Now I’m not going to say that Gordon “7 Michelin Star” Ramsey is my favorite chef. But.. I just love him. What makes Gordon Ramsey so appealing is not his potty mouth, but his passion for food. He doesn’t care so much the style or even how simple it is. He cares that it’s made well. Which is where this delish shepherds pie comes in. Very rustic, simple and made well. Well done chef Ramsey. Well done!
My favorite cake artist is Chelsweets. It’s a Spice Cake with Cinnamon Apple Filling topped with Caramel Buttercream. Of course, the faces are the 5 birthday family members.
A few from our favorite chefs / cake artist. What recipe from your favorite chef is your favorite? I am curious. What is leftover wine?
Until next week,
Mandy, Georgia, Nikita, Jen, Cammy and Zane
Little FYI, Jen is busy doing her mom thing and Cammy is gearing up to move. Zane is a dad with an elementary school age son and a newborn daughter. Life keeps us busy. We all jump in when we can and we love it when they do.
