📖 “We love because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:19 (ESV)
📜 Background:
The Apostle John, often called the “Apostle of Love,” wrote extensively about God’s love and how it should transform our relationships. In 1 John 4:19, he reminds us that our ability to love doesn’t come from ourselves—it originates from God, who loved us first.
This verse is a simple yet powerful truth: God’s love is the foundation of our faith. We love others not out of obligation, but as a response to the overwhelming love God has shown us through Jesus Christ.
💡 Devotional:
Love is at the very heart of the Christian life. But sometimes, loving others is hard. People disappoint us, hurt us, or fail to love us in return. In those moments, we must look beyond human love and remember the perfect love of God.
God didn’t wait for us to be worthy, lovable, or perfect before loving us. He loved us first—before we could ever respond, before we even knew Him. His love is unconditional, sacrificial, and endless. When we truly grasp this, it changes how we love others.
Loving others isn’t always easy, but when we reflect on God’s love for us, we find the strength to love even the unlovable, forgive even when it’s hard, and extend grace as He has extended it to us.
Today, let your love be a reflection of God’s love. Not because people deserve it, but because He first loved you.
🙏 Reflection:
- How has experiencing God’s love changed the way I love others?
- Do I find it hard to love certain people? How can I ask God to help me love them as He does?
- What are some practical ways I can reflect God’s love today?
🙌 Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me first, even when I didn’t deserve it. Help me to love others with the same unconditional love that You have shown me. Teach me to love not out of obligation, but as a response to Your amazing grace. Fill my heart with Your love so that it overflows into the lives of those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
✨ Application:
- Meditate on God’s love by reading 1 John 4:7-21.
- Show love in action by doing something kind for someone without expecting anything in return.
- Pray for someone difficult to love and ask God to give you His heart for them.
📌 Takeaway:
God loved us first—completely, unconditionally, and eternally. Now, we are called to love others with the same love He has given us.
💡 Who can you show God’s love to today? Let’s spread His love together! ❤️
