💖 Called Children of God

📖 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

1 John 3:1 (NIV)

📜 Background:

The Apostle John, often called the “apostle of love,” wrote this letter to encourage believers in their faith and remind them of their identity in Christ. During this time, early Christians faced persecution and rejection, but John reassured them that God’s love was greater than any hardship they would endure.

John emphasizes that God has not only saved us but also adopted us as His children. This is a love so deep and extravagant that it surpasses human understanding. To be called a child of God is the highest privilege and the greatest identity we could ever have!

💡 Devotional:

Who are you? If someone asked you to describe yourself, you might talk about your job, your family, or your accomplishments. But above all else, you are a child of God.

This is not just a title—it is a reality given by God’s extravagant love. He didn’t just invite us into His kingdom; He made us His family. That means we are fully known, deeply loved, and eternally secure in Him.

The world may not understand this identity. People may define success, worth, and belonging by different standards. But our worth isn’t based on how others see us—it’s rooted in how God sees us. And He calls us His children.

Today, let that truth settle deep into your heart: You are not forgotten. You are not unworthy. You are not alone. You are a beloved child of the King.

🙏 Reflection:

  1. Do you truly see yourself as a child of God? Why or why not?
  2. How does knowing that God lavished His love on you change the way you see yourself?
  3. What are some ways you can live with confidence in your identity as God’s child?

🙌 Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your incredible love that calls me Your child. Help me to truly understand and embrace my identity in You. When the world tries to define me in other ways, remind me that my worth is found in being Yours. Let my life reflect the love You have lavished on me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

✨ Application:

  • Memorize 1 John 3:1 to remind yourself daily of God’s love for you.
  • Replace negative self-talk with truth. Whenever doubt creeps in, declare: I am a child of God!
  • Encourage someone today by reminding them that they, too, are deeply loved by God.

📌 Takeaway:

God has lavished His love on you and called you His child. This is your identity—walk in it with confidence and joy!
