📖 “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.”
Nahum 1:7 (ESV)
Background:
The book of Nahum is a prophecy concerning the destruction of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. Though Assyria had once repented under Jonah’s preaching, they later returned to their violent ways, oppressing Israel and other nations. Nahum’s prophecy declares God’s justice against this wicked empire, but in the midst of judgment, we find a beautiful truth—God is a refuge for those who trust in Him.
Nahum 1:7 reminds us that even in times of turmoil and uncertainty, God remains good, faithful, and strong. No matter what storms we face, He is our place of safety.
Devotional:
Life brings seasons of trials—whether through personal struggles, loss, or uncertainty. In those moments, where do you turn? Nahum 1:7 reassures us that God is our stronghold, an unshakable fortress when trouble comes. His goodness does not change based on our circumstances; rather, it is constant and unwavering.
God not only provides refuge, but He knows those who take shelter in Him. His care is personal. He sees your struggles, hears your prayers, and walks with you through the storm.
Are you facing a challenge today? Instead of relying on your own strength, take refuge in the One who holds all things together. His goodness is your safe place.
Reflection:
- What does it mean to you that God is a stronghold in times of trouble?
- How have you experienced God’s goodness in difficult seasons?
- What steps can you take to trust in God’s refuge instead of relying on your own strength?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my refuge in times of trouble. When the storms of life come, help me to trust in Your goodness and strength. Remind me that You see me, You know me, and You are always with me. I choose to take refuge in You today, knowing that You are my stronghold. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Application:
- Spend time in prayer, surrendering your worries to God.
- Reflect on past trials where God has been your refuge, and thank Him for His faithfulness.
- Encourage someone who is struggling by reminding them of God’s goodness and strength.
Takeaway:
God’s goodness never fails, and His strength is our safe place. No matter what you face, He is your refuge—always faithful, always present, always good.
