Trusting God in Every Season

Scripture:

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

Matthew 6:25, ESV

Background:

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches about the kingdom of God and how His followers are to live. In Matthew 6:25-34, He specifically addresses anxiety and worry, reminding His disciples that God is the ultimate provider. He uses examples from nature—the birds of the air and the flowers of the field—to illustrate God’s care for His creation. Jesus calls His followers to seek God’s kingdom first, trusting that He will provide for all their needs.

Devotional:

Worry is a universal struggle. We often find ourselves anxious about the future, our finances, our health, or the unknowns of life. But Jesus gently reminds us that our Heavenly Father knows our needs and cares for us deeply.

Consider the birds: they do not stress over food, yet God provides for them. Think about the lilies: they do not strive to make themselves beautiful, yet their splendor surpasses even that of Solomon. If God cares so tenderly for His creation, how much more will He care for us, His beloved children?

Jesus calls us to shift our focus—from worry to trust, from temporary concerns to eternal priorities. Seeking God’s kingdom first means putting our faith in His provision, living righteously, and trusting Him with every aspect of our lives. Instead of dwelling on “what ifs,” we can rest in the assurance that God holds our tomorrow.

What burdens are you carrying today? Surrender them to the Lord, knowing He is faithful to provide and guide you in every season of life.

Reflection:

  1. What are some common worries that weigh on your heart?
  2. How does remembering God’s past faithfulness help you trust Him for the future?
  3. What practical steps can you take to seek God’s kingdom first in your daily life?
  4. How does this passage challenge your perspective on anxiety and trust?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I surrender my worries to You. Help me to trust in Your provision and seek Your kingdom above all else. Remind me that You are faithful, and You hold my future in Your hands. Teach me to rest in Your love and to live each day with faith instead of fear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Application:

  • When you feel anxious, take a moment to pray and surrender your concerns to God.
  • Meditate on this passage and remind yourself of God’s provision by observing nature around you.
  • Make a list of ways you can actively seek God’s kingdom first in your daily life.

Takeaway:

God calls us to live in faith, not fear. When we trust in His provision and seek His kingdom first, He promises to take care of all our needs.
