📖 Scripture:
Philippians 2:5-11 (ESV)
“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men…”
Background
Paul wrote Philippians while in prison, encouraging believers to live in unity, humility, and joy. This passage, often referred to as the “Christ Hymn,” beautifully describes Jesus’ humility, sacrifice, and ultimate exaltation. It calls us to follow His example—putting others before ourselves and trusting in God’s plan.
Devotional
Humility is not a sign of weakness, but of strength in Christ. Jesus, though fully God, chose to lower Himself, serve others, and endure the cross for our salvation. His obedience led to His exaltation, where every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord.
As followers of Christ, we are called to embrace humility, selflessness, and obedience. True greatness is not found in status or power but in serving others as Christ did. Are we willing to put aside our own pride, desires, and ambitions to reflect the heart of Jesus?
Reflection
- How does Jesus’ humility challenge the way I live my life?
- In what ways can I serve others with a Christ-like attitude?
- What are some areas where I struggle with pride, and how can I surrender them to God?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the perfect example of humility in Jesus Christ. Help me to have the same mind as Him, putting others before myself and seeking to serve rather than be served. Teach me to walk in obedience, trusting that You will lift me up in Your perfect time. May my life bring glory to Jesus, the Name above all names. Amen.
Application
- Serve someone intentionally today—offer encouragement, help, or simply listen with love.
- Examine your heart—ask God to reveal areas where pride may be hindering your walk with Him.
- Praise Jesus daily—acknowledge His Lordship and surrender your plans to His perfect will.
Takeaway
Jesus showed us that humility leads to glory. When we follow His example, we reflect His love to the world.
