Scripture:
Matthew 27:57–66 (ESV)
“So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.”
(v. 66)
🕰️ Background:
Holy Saturday is the quietest day of Holy Week. Jesus’ body lay in the tomb, the disciples scattered and full of sorrow. To the world, it appeared that hope had been buried with Him. The religious leaders sealed the tomb, fearing His followers might steal the body. But while everything seemed still, God was preparing the greatest victory ever known—resurrection.
💭 Devotional:
There’s a holy tension in the waiting. Saturday wasn’t just a day of silence—it was a day of divine mystery. The disciples grieved without understanding. The religious authorities tried to control what only God could govern. Yet, behind the stone, God was at work.
In our own seasons of waiting, when the silence feels deafening and the tomb feels too heavy to roll away, we can trust that God is still moving. Holy Saturday reminds us that even when we can’t see the evidence, resurrection power is drawing near. God is not absent in the silence—He’s preparing to reveal His glory.
❓Reflection:
- When have you experienced a “Holy Saturday” season—quiet, uncertain, but filled with expectation?
- How can you choose trust when God feels silent?
- What “sealed tomb” in your life needs surrender to God’s timing and power?
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, in the silence of waiting, help me trust that You are still working. Even when I cannot see or feel it, remind me that the story is not over. Teach me to rest in Your promises and to find peace knowing that resurrection always follows the grave. Amen.
🛠️ Application:
Take a few minutes today to sit quietly before God. Write down areas in your life where you’re waiting or feel stuck. Offer each one to Him in prayer. Trust that while you wait, He works.
🕊️ Takeaway:
God is still at work in the silence. The sealed tomb did not stop the resurrection—and neither will your waiting silence the promise of His power.
