Day 3 study on Ruth
Scripture:
“But Ruth said: ‘Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.’” — Ruth 1:16
Background:
Naomi urged Ruth to follow Orpah’s lead and return to her homeland, but Ruth refused. Her declaration in verse 16 is one of the most profound statements of devotion in all of Scripture. She was not only committing to Naomi but also to the God of Israel. This moment marked a turning point for Ruth—her faith and loyalty would shape the rest of her journey.
Devotional:
Loyalty is powerful. In a world where commitments can be fleeting, Ruth’s devotion stands as a testimony of unwavering love and trust. She wasn’t just choosing Naomi; she was choosing God. Her declaration wasn’t just about companionship—it was about faith, belonging, and transformation.
Ruth’s decision was radical. She left behind familiarity to embrace uncertainty. Her heart was set not on personal gain, but on faithfulness. God honors the kind of devotion that chooses Him, even when the road is unclear. When we say, “Where You go, I will go,” we echo Ruth’s faith—a faith that leads to redemption.
Reflection:
- What does Ruth’s declaration teach us about commitment and faith?
- Have you ever faced a decision where devotion required sacrifice?
- How can you cultivate a heart that says, “Where You go, I will go” to God?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to embrace the kind of faith that Ruth displayed—steadfast, unwavering, and fully committed. May my heart be anchored in You, even when the path ahead is uncertain. Strengthen my trust in Your leading, and teach me to walk faithfully wherever You call me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Application:
Examine your commitments—are they rooted in faith and love? Choose one area in your life where God is calling you to deeper trust, and step forward with confidence.
Takeaway:
True devotion is not just a feeling—it’s a decision to trust, follow, and commit.
