📜 Scripture:
“Wait, my daughter, until you find out what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today.” — Ruth 3:18 (NIV)
🕰️ Background:
After Ruth’s bold act of trust at the threshing floor, Boaz sends her home before dawn with six measures of barley—a symbolic gesture of provision and promise. Naomi, seasoned by sorrow and now stirred by hope, tells Ruth to wait. Boaz must now act, and Ruth must rest in what she cannot control.
💡 Devotional:
There is a sacred stillness in this passage. Ruth has done all she can. She has obeyed, trusted, and laid herself at the feet of her redeemer. Now, she must wait.
Waiting is not passive. It is an act of faith. Naomi’s words—“Wait, my daughter”—echo the voice of the Spirit to us when we’ve stepped out in obedience but haven’t yet seen the outcome. Boaz, a man of integrity, will not rest until the matter is resolved. And neither will our Redeemer.
The six measures of barley Boaz gives Ruth are more than food—they are a down payment of hope. A reminder that while she walks home in the dark, something is already unfolding in the light.
🪞 Reflection:
- What is God asking you to wait for with trust and expectancy?
- How can you rest in the assurance that your Redeemer is working, even when you can’t see it?
- What “barley” has God placed in your life as a reminder of His provision and promise?
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, teach me to wait with faith, not fear. When I’ve done all I can, help me to rest in Your character. Remind me that You are not idle—that You are working all things together for good. Strengthen my heart in the waiting. Amen.
🛠️ Application:
Write down one area where you’re waiting on God. Place it somewhere visible—on your mirror, your desk, or your phone lock screen. Each time you see it, whisper: “He will not rest until it is settled.”
📌 Takeaway:
Faith doesn’t end with action—it deepens in the waiting. Trust the One who works while you rest.
