Scripture:
āIn Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will.ā
Ephesians 1:11 (NIV)
š Background:
Paulās letter to the Ephesians opens with a sweeping vision of Godās eternal plan. This verse reminds believers that we are not incidental but intentionally chosen. Nothing in our lives is randomāGod is always at work, weaving each thread into His purpose.
Just like Ruth, a Moabite widow in a foreign land, we might not always see how our steps fit into something bigger. But through obedience and trust, Ruth was folded into God’s planānot just as a recipient of redemption, but as a key part of the lineage of Christ.
š” Devotional Thought:
Ephesians 1:11 invites us into the security of divine purpose. Even when life feels disjointedālike famine, widowhood, or unfamiliar fieldsāGod is orchestrating each detail.
Ruth didnāt know the full story when she clung to Naomi or when she gleaned in Boazās field. But her small choices aligned with a sovereign plan far greater than her view. Like Ruth, we live out purpose step by step, often without knowing what legacy is being formed through our faithfulness.
Godās will isnāt rigidāitās relational. He invites us into His redemptive work, giving meaning to our waiting, dignity to our decisions, and glory to our surrender. You are not overlooked. You are part of a plan older and deeper than time.
š§ Reflection:
- Where in your life do you need to trust that God is working out His purpose?
- What āordinaryā decisions might He be using to shape something eternal?
- How does Ruthās story encourage you in seasons of uncertainty?
š Prayer:
Father, thank You for choosing me with purpose. When I canāt see the full picture, help me trust the brushstrokes of Your will. Use my ordinary daysālike Ruthāsāto build something extraordinary. Let my life align with the beauty of Your plan, and may Your glory shine through my obedience. Amen.
š ļø Application:
Write down a decision you’re currently facing. Pray over it while rereading Ephesians 1:11. Then commit to one small, faithful step that moves you forward with trust, even without all the answers.
š Takeaway:
You are not drifting. You are divinely placed. Like Ruth, you walk within the will of a God who plans in love.
