đ Scripture
Genesis 45:16â28 (KJV)
âAnd they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, and told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob’s heart fainted, for he believed them not.â (v.25â26)
⨠Background
Word spreads through Pharaohâs house that Joseph’s brothers have comeâand the news is met not with condemnation, but with celebration and generosity. Pharaoh orders provisions for Josephâs family, anticipating their reunion and resettlement in Egypt. Meanwhile, the brothers return to Canaan with impossible news: Joseph is alive. Jacob, long resigned to grief, cannot fathom such hope. Only when he sees the wagons does his spirit revive.
đĄ Devotional Thought
Restoration rarely begins with perfectionâit begins with permission. Permission to hope again. To believe again. To trust that what was lost might be found, and what seemed dead might yet live.
Jacob had lived in sorrow for years. The idea of restoration was too good to be true. But God’s plan wasnât bound by Jacobâs grief or the brothersâ guilt. It moved forward anyway. This moment reminds us: even after heartbreak and silence, God still writes chapters of healing.
And noticeârestoration comes through community. Pharaoh honors Josephâs family. Joseph sends provisions. The brothers return as bearers of good news. In the same way, weâre called to be carriers of hope and facilitators of revivalâfor others and for ourselves.
đ Reflection Questions
- Have you ever struggled to believe good news because disappointment had dulled your hope?
- Who in your life needs help reviving their spiritâcould you be their âwagon of hopeâ?
- What does this passage show you about Godâs heart in seasons of reunion and restoration?
đ Prayer
God of healing and new beginnings,
Thank You for writing stories I never imagined possible. When grief takes hold of my heart, revive me with Your truth. Help me to believe again, to hope again, and to carry restoration to others. May I not resist the wagons You sendâmay I recognize them as signs of Your mercy.
Amen.
𪴠Application
Today, reach out to someone who has been grieving or distancedâthrough loss, misunderstanding, or silence. Share encouragement or a memory of Godâs faithfulness. Let your words be like the wagons arriving in Jacobâs view: tangible evidence that restoration is not only possible, but already in motion.
đŻ Takeaway Truth
Even when weâve stopped believing restoration is possible, God sends wagonsâproof that life and joy can begin again.
