🌾 Yet I Will Rejoice

Theme: Living with Joy

šŸ“– Scripture:
Habakkuk 3:17–18 (GNTD)
ā€œEven though the fig trees have no fruit and no grapes grow on the vines, even though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no grain, even though the sheep all die and the cattle stalls are empty, I will still be joyful and glad, because the Lord God is my savior.ā€

šŸ“œ Background:
Habakkuk was a prophet living in a time of national crisis and personal despair. His world was unraveling—crops failing, livestock gone, hope seemingly lost. Yet in the final verses of his prayer, he makes a stunning declaration: ā€œI will still be joyful and glad.ā€ This is not denial—it’s defiant faith. Joy, for Habakkuk, is not rooted in circumstances but in the character of God.

šŸ’” Devotional:
Joy that depends on outcomes is fragile. But joy that rests in God is unshakable. Habakkuk paints a bleak picture—no fruit, no grain, no livestock. In modern terms: no paycheck, no progress, no visible blessing. And yet… ā€œI will rejoice.ā€

This is the heart of living with joy: choosing praise when everything says panic. It’s trusting that God is still good, still present, still worthy—no matter what’s missing.

Habakkuk’s joy isn’t circumstantial; it’s covenantal. It flows from knowing that God is his Savior, his strength, his song. When we anchor our joy in who God is, not what we have, we find peace that defies logic and praise that outlasts pain.

šŸŖž Reflection Questions:

  • What ā€œmissing fruitā€ in my life tempts me to lose joy?
  • How can I shift my focus from what’s lacking to who God is?
  • What does rejoicing in God look like when life feels empty?

šŸ™ Prayer:
Lord, even when things fall apart, help me to rejoice in You. You are my Savior, my strength, my joy. Teach me to praise You not for what I see, but for who You are. Amen.

šŸ› ļø Application:
Write a list of things that feel ā€œmissingā€ right now. Then beside each one, write a truth about God that remains unchanged.

šŸ“Œ Takeaway:
Joy isn’t found in what’s full—it’s found in faith. Even when everything is empty, God is enough.
