Theme: Sunday Trust
📖 Scripture:
Jeremiah 39:18 (NIV):
“I will save you; you will not fall by the sword but will escape with your life, because you trust in me,” declares the Lord.
📜 Background:
Jeremiah 39 recounts the fall of Jerusalem to Babylon. Amid the chaos, God speaks a personal promise to Ebed-Melech, an Ethiopian court official who had courageously rescued Jeremiah from a cistern. Though destruction surrounded him, God assured Ebed-Melech that his life would be spared—not because of status or strength, but because of his trust in the Lord.
💬 Devotional:
Trust is more than belief—it’s a lifeline. In Jeremiah 39:18, God singles out one man in the midst of national collapse and offers him protection. Why? Because he trusted.
Ebed-Melech didn’t have power to change the outcome of war, but he did have faith to act with compassion and courage. His trust in God moved him to do what was right, even when it was risky. And God saw it.
Trust doesn’t guarantee ease, but it does guarantee presence. God honors those who lean on Him when everything else feels unstable. In seasons of uncertainty, trust becomes our refuge. It’s not passive—it’s active, bold, and deeply personal.
❓ Reflection Questions:
- What does trusting God look like in my current circumstances?
- Have I ever seen God protect or guide me because I chose to trust Him?
- What fears challenge my ability to trust fully?
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being trustworthy in every season. Help me to lean on You when I feel afraid or uncertain. Strengthen my faith to act with courage and compassion, knowing You see and honor my trust. Keep me safe in Your promises. Amen.
🛠️ Application:
Identify one area of your life where fear or uncertainty is creeping in. Write a short prayer of trust and place it somewhere visible. Let it remind you daily that God sees your trust and responds with protection and peace.
📌 Takeaway:
God honors trust. Even in chaos, those who lean on Him will find safety, strength, and the assurance of His presence.
