November Theme: The Table of Thanksgiving
š Scripture
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ā Romans 15:13 (NIV)
šļø Background
Romans 15:13 is part of Paulās encouragement to the early church, reminding them that unity, endurance, and encouragement come from God. This verse is a benedictionāa prayerful wish that believers would be filled with joy, peace, and hope through trusting in God and the work of the Holy Spirit. Itās a powerful reminder that hope isnāt something we manufacture; itās something we receive.
⨠Devotional
In years past, as I prepared my home for Thanksgiving, I find myself thinking not just about the food or the dĆ©cor, but about the atmosphere I wanted to create. More than anything, I want my table to be a place of hopeāa space where hearts are lifted and burdens are lightened.
Romans 15:13 speaks directly to that longing. It reminds me that hope is not a vague wish or a fragile feelingāitās a divine overflow. When we trust in God, He fills us with joy and peace, and that fullness spills out into hope. Not just for ourselves, but for those around us.
There have been seasons in my life when hope felt distant. But Iāve learned that even in those moments, God was quietly working, gently filling me with His peace until hope returned. This verse is a promise: when we trust Him, hope will riseānot because of our strength, but because of His Spirit.
šŖ Reflection Questions
- What does hope look like in your life right now?
- How has trusting God brought you peace or joy in a difficult season?
- Who in your life needs to experience the overflow of hope through you?
š Prayer
God of hope, thank you for your promise to fill me with joy and peace as I trust in you. Help me to lean into your Spirit and allow your hope to overflow in my life. May my heart and my home reflect your presence this Thanksgiving season. Use me to bring hope to others who need it. Amen.
š ļø Application
This week, create a small āhope cornerā in your homeāa place where you can sit, pray, and reflect. Write down one area where you need Godās hope, and one person you can encourage. Let this be your personal table of hope, where you receive and share the overflow.
š Takeaway
Hope isnāt something we chaseāitās something God pours into us when we trust Him. Let your life be a vessel of that hope.
