Speak, Lord—Your Servant Is Listening

✨ January Theme: Set My Course

🕊️ Welcome Moment

Before every great movement of God in Scripture, there is a moment of stillness—a heart quiet enough to hear, a spirit open enough to receive. As you step into this new year, imagine yourself standing in that sacred quiet. The noise fades, the hurry slows, and your soul leans in.

This is where direction begins.
This is where clarity is born.
This is where God speaks.

Today, you enter the posture of listening.

📖 Scripture Immersion

1 Samuel 3:9–10 (NIV)
“So Eli told Samuel, ‘Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”’ So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’”

Let these words settle into your spirit like a whispered invitation.

Snapshot

Picture a young Samuel lying in the dim glow of the temple lamp. The night is still. The air is quiet. Suddenly, a voice calls his name—not harsh, not hurried, but familiar and full of presence.

Samuel doesn’t yet know it’s God, but he responds with availability.
He returns to his place, heart open, posture ready.

And when God calls again, Samuel answers with one of the most powerful prayers in Scripture:
“Speak… I’m listening.”

This is the beginning of Samuel’s prophetic journey. Not with action. Not with achievement.
But with listening.

🔍 Deep Dive

“Go and lie down…”
Listening begins with stillness. God often speaks in moments we slow down enough to hear.

“…if He calls you…”
God’s voice is personal. He calls us by name, into relationship, not performance.

“Speak, Lord…”
This is surrender. It is the willingness to hear whatever God desires to say—not just what we hope to hear.

“…your servant is listening.”
Listening is an act of obedience. It is the posture of a heart ready to follow wherever God leads.

As you Set Your Course this January, remember:
Direction doesn’t begin with movement.
It begins with listening.

🧭 Companion Questions

  1. Where in your life do you need to slow down so you can hear God more clearly?
  2. What distractions tend to drown out God’s voice for you?
  3. When was the last time you prayed, “Speak, Lord—I’m listening,” and truly meant it?
  4. What might God be inviting you to hear in this season?

🚶‍♀️ Pilgrimage Practice

  • Sacred Stillness: Set aside five minutes today to sit in silence before God. No requests—just listening.
  • Listening Posture: Write Samuel’s prayer somewhere visible: “Speak, Lord—Your servant is listening.” Whisper it throughout the week.
  • Quiet the Noise: Choose one source of noise—digital, emotional, or mental—to limit for the next three days. Create space for God’s voice.
  • Return to Your Place: Like Samuel, return to a consistent spot each day to meet with God. Let it become your listening place.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Lord, speak to me in the quiet places of my heart. Teach me to slow down, to listen deeply, and to recognize Your voice. As I set my course this year, guide me through Your whispers, Your nudges, and Your Word. I offer You my attention, my obedience, and my desire to follow wherever You lead. Speak, Lord—Your servant is listening. Amen.

Verse of the Day

Hebrews 12:1–2 (NIV)
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
