Love That Sacrifices

✨ February Theme: The Shape of True Love

🕊️ Welcome Moment

Some loves are convenient. Some are comfortable. Some are mutual.
But the love Jesus speaks of in John 15 is costly—love that gives, love that lays down, love that chooses another’s good over its own comfort.

As you continue exploring The Shape of True Love, today’s passage invites you into the heart of Christlike love:
Love that sacrifices—not out of duty, but out of devotion.

📖 Scripture Immersion

John 15:12–13 (NIV)
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Read it slowly. Hear the tenderness. Feel the weight of His example.

🌄 Snapshot

Imagine a shepherd watching over his flock at dusk. Wolves lurk at the edges of the field. The sheep are unaware, grazing peacefully. The shepherd steps forward, placing himself between danger and the ones he loves.

He doesn’t do it because the sheep are strong, grateful, or deserving.
He does it because love protects.
Love stands in the gap.
Love sacrifices.

This is the love Jesus describes—love that steps forward when others step back, love that gives even when it costs something precious.

🔍 Deep Dive

“My command is this…”
Jesus doesn’t offer a suggestion. He gives a command—because this kind of love is central to His kingdom.

“…Love each other as I have loved you.”
Not as you feel like loving.
Not as others deserve.
But as Jesus has loved you—fully, faithfully, sacrificially.

“Greater love has no one than this…”
Jesus defines the highest form of love:
Love that lays something down.
Love that gives something up.
Love that chooses another’s good over its own comfort.

“…to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Jesus did this literally.
We do it daily—laying down pride, preferences, convenience, time, comfort, and sometimes our right to be understood.

As you explore The Shape of True Love, remember:
Sacrificial love is not about loss—it is about becoming more like Jesus.

Jesus, thank You for loving me with a love that sacrifices. Teach me to love others with that same depth and devotion.
