🎄 December Theme: The Journey to the Manger
📖 Scripture
Isaiah 40:3–5 (NIV)
“A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.’”
📚 Background
Isaiah’s prophecy speaks of preparation—making a way for the Lord. Centuries later, John the Baptist fulfilled this role, preparing hearts for Jesus’ arrival. The imagery of valleys lifted and mountains lowered points to God’s power to remove obstacles so His glory can be revealed. This passage is a reminder that the manger was not random—it was the fulfillment of God’s plan, prepared long before.
💬 Devotional
A friend once told me about a hiking trip where the trail was so uneven and rocky that every step felt exhausting. He said, “I wished someone had gone ahead to clear the path—it would have made the journey so much easier.” Their words reminded me of Isaiah’s prophecy.
God promised that a voice would cry out in the wilderness, preparing the way for Jesus. Just as John the Baptist cleared the path for Christ’s ministry, God prepares our hearts to receive Him. The manger is not just the beginning of Jesus’ earthly life—it is the moment when God’s glory begins to shine for all people.
On our journey to the manger, we are called to prepare the way in our own lives—removing distractions, leveling pride, and opening space for Christ’s presence.
