Journey to Bethlehem

🎄 December Theme: The Journey to the Manger

📖 Scripture

Luke 2:1–5 (NIV)
“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house an… a child.”

📚 Background

This passage sets the stage for the birth of Jesus. Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem was not one of convenience—it was long, difficult, and filled with uncertainty. Yet it was necessary to fulfill prophecy that the Messiah would be born in David’s city. Their obedience and perseverance remind us that God’s plans often unfold through ordinary, even challenging circumstances.

💬 Devotional

My friend once shared about a road trip she and her husband took with their newborn. She laughed, saying, “It wasn’t glamorous—lots of stops, lots of tears—but looking back, it was one of the sweetest journeys because we were together

Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem was far from easy. Traveling while pregnant, facing crowded roads, and arriving in a city packed with people must have felt overwhelming. Yet, their journey was part of God’s greater plan. On our journey to the manger, we are reminded that obedience often requires perseverance, and that God’s presence is with us even in the most ordinary, difficult steps.

Like Mary and Joseph, we may not always understand why the road is hard, but we can trust that God is guiding us toward His promises.
