Glory to God in the Highest

🎄 December Theme: The Journey to the Manger

📖 Scripture

Luke 2:13–14 (NIV)
“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’”

📚 Background

After the angel announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, heaven could not remain silent. A multitude of angels appeared, filling the night sky with praise. Their proclamation declared two eternal truths: God receives the highest glory, and humanity receives His peace through the birth of Christ.

This moment reveals the magnitude of what happened in Bethlehem. The Savior’s arrival was not just a historical event — it was heaven’s declaration that God’s redemptive plan had entered the world in human flesh.

💬 Devotional

The angels’ song is heaven’s declaration that God has stepped into human history to restore what was lost. The birth of Jesus is not just a beautiful moment — it is the turning point of the entire human story.

“Glory to God in the highest” acknowledges that only God could accomplish such a miracle. Only God could send His Son in human flesh. Only God could initiate reconciliation with a world that could not save itself.

“And on earth peace…”
This peace is the peace of reconciliation — the peace that comes when the Savior bridges the gap between a holy God and a sinful humanity. Jesus came to restore us, redeem us, and bring us back into relationship with the Father.

On our journey to the manger, we remember that the birth of Christ is God’s declaration that He desires to be near His people. The manger leads to the cross, and the cross leads to restored fellowship with God.

The angels’ praise invites us to stand in awe of a God who did not wait for us to come to Him — He came to us.
