Forty Steps with Jesus: Walking the Road to the Cross
đď¸ Welcome Moment
Some seasons of obedience carry a hidden costâmisunderstanding, pressure, waiting, or even rejection. Jesus knew this intimately. As His public ministry grew, so did the opposition, the whispers, and the danger. Yet He continued to walk in the Fatherâs timing, not the worldâs expectations.
As you walk these Forty Steps with Jesus, todayâs passage invites you to consider the cost of following Godâs callâand the courage it takes to obey even when others donât understand.
đ Scripture Immersion
John 7:1â13 (NIV)
âMy time is not yet here; for you any time will do.â
ââŚBut no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.â
Read slowly. Notice the tension, the pressure, and the quiet resolve of Jesus.
đ Snapshot
The Feast of Tabernacles was approachingâa joyful, crowded celebration in Jerusalem. Jesusâ brothers urged Him to go publicly, to prove Himself, to show His works to the world. Their words carried a sting: âEven His own brothers did not believe in Him.â
But Jesus refused to be pushed by human agendas.
He waited for the Fatherâs timing.
He chose obedience over approval.
He walked quietly, not seeking attention, but fulfilling His calling step by step.
The cost of His calling was already risingâand He embraced it with unwavering trust.
đ Deep Dive
âJesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in JudeaâŚâ
Danger was growing. Jesus was fully aware of the threat, yet He remained faithful to His mission.
âHis brothers said to him, âLeave Galilee and go to JudeaâŚââ
Even those closest to Him misunderstood His purpose.
Obedience often means walking a path others cannot see.
âFor even his own brothers did not believe in him.â
Jesus experienced the pain of unbelief within His own family.
Your calling may also be questioned by those you love.
âMy time is not yet hereâŚâ
Jesus lived by divine timing, not human pressure.
Surrender means trusting Godâs pace, not rushing ahead.
âHe went also, but in secret.â
Jesus chose quiet obedience over public display.
Sometimes the holiest steps are the hidden ones.
âNo one would say anything publicly about him for fearâŚâ
The atmosphere was thick with tension.
Following Jesus has always required courage.
As you walk toward the cross with Jesus, remember:
The cost of your calling is realâbut so is the One who walks with you.
