Rising Into New Life

Surrender — Forty Steps with Jesus: Walking the Road to the Cross

Opening Thoughts

Easter morning breaks through the silence of the tomb with a declaration that changes everything: Jesus is risen.
But Easter is not only about what happened to Jesus — it is about what happens in us because of Him.

Romans 6:4 reminds us that resurrection is not just an event to celebrate, but a life to enter. To rise with Christ means to surrender the old, release what once held us, and step into the new life His victory makes possible.

Today, we don’t just rejoice in His resurrection — we surrender to it.

Scripture for Meditation

Romans 6:4
“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead… we too may live a new life.”

Let these words settle into your spirit: buried with Him… raised with Him… new life.

Reflection Journey

Imagine standing at the entrance of the empty tomb. The stone is rolled away. The grave clothes lie folded. The air is still, but everything has changed.

This is the moment where death loses its grip.
This is the moment where hope breathes again.
This is the moment where surrender becomes resurrection.

Paul tells us that we are not distant observers of this miracle — we are participants.
When Christ died, our old life died with Him.
When Christ rose, a new life rose within us.

Easter is God’s invitation to stop clinging to what is already buried and to step boldly into the life He has already made new.

Surrender becomes the doorway to resurrection.

Practices for the Week

  • Release Something Old: Identify one habit, fear, or pattern that belongs to the “old life” and surrender it to Christ.
  • Walk in Newness: Choose one intentional action that reflects the new life Jesus has given you — forgiveness, generosity, courage, obedience.
  • Morning Resurrection Prayer: Each morning pray, “Jesus, raise me into the life You have prepared for me.”
  • Light a Candle: Let it symbolize the risen Christ and the new life awakening in you.

Reflection Questions

  1. What part of your old life is Jesus inviting you to bury with Him today?
  2. How does the resurrection reshape your understanding of surrender?
  3. What does “new life” look like for you in this season?
  4. Where do you sense God calling you to rise in faith, courage, or obedience?

Closing Benediction

May the risen Christ awaken your heart to the power of His resurrection.
May every place of surrender become a place of new life.
May you walk in the freedom, joy, and hope that only the empty tomb can give.
And may the Spirit of the Living God raise you daily into the fullness of His love.
Amen.
