Rooted in Faith: Growing Closer to Christ—Faithful Every Day
Welcome Moment
At the foot of the Cross stood Mary, her heart pierced by sorrow yet steadfast in love. She did not turn away from suffering—she remained beside Christ. In that moment, love and pain intertwined, revealing the depth of faith that endures even when the heart breaks.
Today’s devotional invites you to stand beside Christ in your own moments of sorrow, trusting that His presence transforms pain into grace.
Scripture Immersion
John 19:25–27 “Standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing near, He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold your son!’ Then He said to the disciple, ‘Behold your mother!’”
In this sacred exchange, Jesus entrusts Mary and John to one another—a gift of love born from suffering. Even in agony, Christ builds community and care.
Snapshot
A woman once sat beside her friend in the hospital, holding her hand through long hours of silence. She could not take away the pain, but her presence spoke volumes—love that stays when words fail.
Like Mary at the Cross, she discovered that faithfulness in suffering is not about fixing what hurts, but about remaining present in love.
When we stay beside Christ—and beside others—in their pain, we become living witnesses of His mercy.
Deep Dive
Mary’s pierced heart mirrors the heart of every believer who chooses love over escape. Remaining beside Christ in suffering is an act of surrender—it means trusting that redemption is unfolding even when we cannot see it.
Jesus’ words from the Cross remind us that pain does not isolate; it connects. In suffering, He forms new bonds of compassion and care. When we stay near Him, our wounds become places where His grace enters and flows outward to others.
Faith that endures beside the Cross becomes faith that bears fruit beyond it.
