Chosen and Sent

Abide in Him: Living the Easter Life Daily

Welcome Moment

There is a deep truth that steadies the soul: you are not an accident in God’s story. You are chosen — intentionally, lovingly, purposefully. And you are sent — not randomly, but with direction, meaning, and grace.

As we continue our May theme, Abide in Him: Living the Easter Life Daily, today’s devotional invites you to rest in the truth that God’s calling is not reserved for a select few. It is woven into the life of every believer who abides in Christ.

Scripture Immersion

Acts 13:47 “I have made you a light for the Gentiles, so that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.”

Read it slowly. Hear it as a commissioning spoken over your life.

Snapshot

Imagine a single lantern glowing in a dark valley. Its light doesn’t erase the darkness, but it breaks it. It guides. It comforts. It invites others to walk toward safety and hope.

Now imagine that lantern being handed to you.

This is what God does. He places His light within you — not to hide, not to hoard, but to shine.

You are chosen to carry His light. You are sent to reflect His love. You are part of His mission in the world.

Deep Dive

“I have made you…” Your calling begins with God’s initiative. You are crafted, shaped, and appointed by Him.

“…a light for the Gentiles…” Light reveals. Light comforts. Light guides. Light points to something greater than itself.

Your life — your words, your kindness, your presence — becomes a vessel of God’s light.

“…so that you may bring salvation…” You don’t save anyone; Jesus does. But you carry the message, the hope, the invitation.

“…to the ends of the earth.” Your “ends of the earth” may be your home, workplace, community, or a single person God places on your heart.

To abide in Jesus is to live as one who is both chosen and sent — rooted in His love, shining with His light, moving with His purpose.

As you walk through this month, remember: You are chosen by God and sent with His light into the world.

Companion Questions

  1. Where do you sense God inviting you to shine His light today?
  2. What gifts or qualities has God placed in you that reflect His love?
  3. Who in your life needs the hope or encouragement of Christ right now?
  4. How does knowing you are “chosen and sent” shape your daily rhythms?

Pilgrimage Practice

  • Light Whisper: Pray throughout the day, “Jesus, shine Your light through me.”
  • Small Act of Sending: Do one intentional act of kindness or encouragement for someone God brings to mind.
  • Abiding Pause: Sit quietly and imagine Jesus placing a lantern in your hands — His light entrusted to you.
  • Walking Meditation: As you walk, notice sources of light — lamps, windows, sunbeams. Let them remind you of your calling to shine.

Closing Prayer

Jesus, thank You for choosing me and sending me with Your light. Help me abide in You so that Your love, truth, and hope shine through my life. Guide my steps, open my heart, and use me to reflect Your presence wherever You lead today. Amen.
