Surrendering Fear

Surrender — Sunday 2026 Theme

Opening Thoughts

Fear has a way of tightening its grip when we face the unknown. It whispers worst‑case scenarios, magnifies our weaknesses, and convinces us that we are alone. But Joshua 1:9 speaks directly into those trembling places with a command wrapped in comfort: “Do not be afraid… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Surrendering fear is not pretending we are strong. It is trusting that God is stronger. It is releasing the illusion of control and resting in the One who walks beside us.

Scripture for Meditation

Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Let these words settle into the places where fear has taken root.

Reflection Journey

Joshua stood on the edge of a new season — one filled with responsibility, uncertainty, and change. God didn’t give him a map. He gave him a promise.

“I am with you.”

Fear often rises when we cannot see what’s ahead. Courage rises when we remember Who walks with us.

Surrendering fear doesn’t mean we stop feeling afraid. It means we stop letting fear lead.

It means choosing trust over panic. Presence over pressure. God’s strength over our striving.

The Spirit invites you today to loosen your grip on fear and take hold of God’s steadying hand.

Practices for the Week

  • Courage Whisper: Pray throughout the day, “Lord, be with me as I go.”
  • Fear Release: Write down one fear you’ve been carrying. Fold the paper and place it under your Bible as a symbol of surrender.
  • Scripture Strength: Memorize Joshua 1:9 and speak it aloud when fear rises.
  • Courage Step: Take one small action this week that fear has been holding you back from.

Reflection Questions

  1. What fear has been quietly shaping your decisions or emotions lately?
  2. How does God’s promise of presence speak into that fear?
  3. What would courage look like in your current season?
  4. Where do you sense the Spirit inviting you to trust more deeply?

Closing Benediction

May the God who walks beside you strengthen your heart. May His presence quiet every fear and steady every step. May courage rise within you as you surrender what you cannot control. And may you go forward in the confidence that you are never alone. Amen.
