You Are My Friends

Abide in Him: Living the Easter Life Daily

Welcome Moment

There is something breathtaking about being called a friend of Jesus. Not servant. Not stranger. Not distant follower. Friend.

In John 15:14, Jesus invites us into a relationship marked by closeness, trust, and shared life. As we continue our May theme, Abide in Him: Living the Easter Life Daily, today’s devotional invites you to rest in the truth that friendship with Jesus is not earned — it is received, nurtured, and lived out through love.

Scripture Immersion

John 15:14 “You are my friends if you do what I command.”

Read it slowly. Hear it as an invitation into deeper intimacy, not a condition to earn His affection.

Snapshot

Think of a friend who has walked with you through seasons of joy and seasons of heaviness — someone who listens, understands, and stays. A friend whose presence brings comfort simply because they are near.

Now imagine that kind of friendship, but deeper, purer, steadier — a friendship where you are fully known and fully loved.

This is the friendship Jesus offers.

He doesn’t keep you at a distance. He doesn’t call you merely a follower. He draws you close and says, “You are My friend.”

And like any true friendship, it shapes how you live, how you love, and how you respond.

Deep Dive

“You are my friends…” Jesus chooses this word intentionally. Friendship with Him is personal, relational, and rooted in love.

“…if you do what I command.” This is not transactional. It is transformational.

Obedience is the natural expression of friendship with Jesus — not out of fear, but out of love. When you trust His heart, His commands become invitations to walk in freedom, truth, and love.

Friendship with Jesus looks like:

  • Listening to His voice
  • Trusting His guidance
  • Aligning your life with His heart
  • Loving others as He loves
  • Remaining close to Him daily

To abide in Jesus is to live as His friend — walking with Him, learning from Him, and letting His love shape your life.

As you walk through this month, remember: Jesus doesn’t just save you — He befriends you.
