We Must Obey God Rather Than Men

Abide in Him: Living the Easter Life Daily

Welcome Moment

There are moments in the Christian life when obedience becomes costly — when following Jesus requires courage, clarity, and a heart anchored in truth. Acts 5:29 captures one of those moments. Peter and the apostles stand before powerful leaders, facing pressure to silence their witness. Yet their response is simple, unwavering, and rooted in deep trust: We must obey God.

As we continue our May theme, Abide in Him: Living the Easter Life Daily, today’s devotional invites you to consider what faithful obedience looks like in your own life — especially when it is not easy.

Scripture Immersion

Acts 5:29 “We must obey God rather than any human authority.”

Read it slowly. Let its boldness and clarity settle into your spirit.

Snapshot

Imagine a crossroads at dusk. One path is wide, well‑lit, and crowded with people moving in the same direction. The other is narrow, quieter, and less traveled. The wide path feels easier, more comfortable, more accepted. But the narrow path is the one marked by God’s voice.

Choosing the narrow path often requires courage. It may cost you approval. It may challenge your comfort. It may set you apart.

But it is the path where Christ walks with you.

Peter and the apostles chose the narrow path — not because it was safe, but because it was faithful.

Deep Dive

“We must obey God…” Obedience is not optional for the disciple. It is the natural overflow of love, trust, and surrender.

“…rather than any human authority.” This does not dismiss the value of earthly leadership. But it places God’s voice above every other voice.

Obedience to God may require:

  • Speaking truth when silence is easier
  • Choosing integrity when compromise is tempting
  • Standing firm when others waver
  • Following Christ even when misunderstood

Obedience is not rebellion — it is allegiance to the One who is Lord of all.

To abide in Jesus is to let His voice be the loudest, His will be the clearest, and His call be the one you follow.

As you walk through this month, remember: Obedience to God is the pathway to freedom, courage, and deep abiding peace.

Pilgrimage Practice

  • Obedience Whisper: Pray throughout the day, “Lord, help me obey Your voice above all others.”
  • Courage Step: Identify one area where obedience feels challenging and surrender it to God.
  • Abiding Pause: Sit quietly and imagine Jesus standing beside you at the crossroads, guiding you toward His way.
  • Walking Meditation: As you walk, notice signs, arrows, or paths. Let them remind you that God’s direction is trustworthy and good.

Closing Prayer

Lord, give me the courage to obey You above all else. Strengthen my heart to follow Your voice, trust Your leading, and walk faithfully in Your ways. Help me abide in You so deeply that obedience becomes my joy and my freedom. Amen.
