Love Begins With God

New Devotional Series | The Shape of True Love

As February begins, love is everywhere—but not all love looks the same.
This month, we’re slowing down to explore The Shape of True Love—the kind of love that serves, sacrifices, heals, and stays.

True love isn’t just something we feel.
It’s something we live.

Join us each day as we reflect on Scripture and discover how God’s love shapes our hearts, our relationships, and our faith. From quiet faithfulness to self-giving grace, we’ll trace the beautiful, holy contours of love as Christ shows it to us.

Love Begins With God

✨ February Theme: The Shape of True Love

🕊️ Welcome Moment

Love is one of the most familiar words in our world—and one of the most misunderstood. We chase it, define it, redefine it, and often feel the ache of its absence. But Scripture brings us back to the source.

Before love is something we give, express, or feel…
Love is something God is.

Today, step into a moment of quiet recognition:
Every expression of true love in your life begins with Him.

📖 Scripture Immersion

1 John 4:7–10 (NIV)
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God… This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son…”

Read these words slowly. Let them wash over you like a reminder of where love truly originates.

🌄Snapshot

Imagine standing beside a clear mountain spring. The water flows steadily, endlessly, pure and cold. You cup your hands and drink, refreshed by something you did not create and cannot control.

Now imagine trying to find water without a source—digging holes, searching dry ground, hoping for moisture. No matter how hard you try, you cannot produce what only a spring can give.

This is the difference between human love and God’s love.
Human love runs dry.
God’s love flows endlessly.

We don’t manufacture love—we receive it.
And once received, it becomes something we can give.

🔍 Deep Dive

“Love comes from God…”
Love is not a human invention. It originates in the heart of God and flows outward to us.

“…everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”
True love is evidence of relationship. When we love others well, we reflect the One who first loved us.

“This is love…”
John doesn’t leave room for confusion. Love is not defined by emotion, romance, or sentiment.

“…not that we loved God, but that he loved us…”
Love begins with God’s initiative. He moved toward us first—before we were ready, deserving, or aware.

“…and sent his Son…”
Love is not abstract. It is embodied, sacrificial, and demonstrated in Christ.

As you explore The Shape of True Love this February, remember:
You cannot give what you have not received.
Let God’s love fill you first.

I visited a friend this week. She wanted to know why I was always joyful and happy, always smiling. I told her it was not me but the Lord. She smiled and agreed.
