Bloom Where God Plants You
Welcome Moment
Every garden has them — weeds that creep in quietly, grow quickly, and choke what was meant to flourish. Our spiritual lives are no different. Hebrews 12:1 reminds us that growth requires intention, and blooming requires clearing away anything that hinders our walk with Christ.
As we continue our April theme, Bloom Where God Plants You, today’s devotional invites you to examine the “weeds” that may be stealing your strength, your focus, or your joy.
Scripture Immersion
Hebrews 12:1 (NIV) “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance…”
Read it slowly. Notice the words throw off, entangles, run, perseverance.
Snapshot
Imagine a gardener stepping into a beautiful garden that has been neglected for a season. The flowers are still there — but so are the weeds. They wrap around stems, steal nutrients, and overshadow what was meant to grow.
The gardener kneels down, gently pulling away what doesn’t belong. With each weed removed, the plants breathe again. Light returns. Space opens. Growth becomes possible.
In the same way, God invites you to partner with Him in removing the spiritual weeds — habits, thoughts, distractions, or sins — that keep you from blooming fully in Him.
Weeding isn’t punishment. It’s preparation for flourishing.
Deep Dive
“Throw off everything that hinders…” Not everything that hinders is sinful — some things are simply heavy, draining, or distracting.
“…and the sin that so easily entangles.” Sin wraps around the soul like vines around a stem — subtle, tightening, restricting.
“Let us run…” God calls you to movement, purpose, and forward momentum.
“…with perseverance…” Growth is not instant; it is cultivated through steady, faithful steps.
As you walk through this month, remember: Blooming requires clearing the soil — and Christ gives you the strength to remove what holds you back.
